Dev Log #4 (Oct.3 - Oct.9)

Based on the feedback and advices, our original game design's scope is too large which may cause heavy workload. Therefore, after carefully decision, we discussed to narrow down the game design idea.

We decided our game to focus on the storyline and remove the area lock to let the player freely explore the whole game world.
Stickers are still our main mechanic that players are able to collect and place them as it goes from 2D to 3D. Player are now able to rebuilding the scene . In short, our game is more like a visual novel that put the player in the memory of the artist. Each story piece represent a memory piece from different stage of the artist’s life relating to carnival.

  • Childhood stage, go to carnival for the first time.
  • Teenager stage, first date with his girlfriend.
  • Adulthood stage, take kids to the carnival.

Furthermore, there is one NPC that has the same appearance with blurred face. The NPC has a different role in each of the memory pieces, but the storytelling trick the player to make them believe the NPC is the same person and all memory happened at the same timeline.
After all the colour was back to life, an extra piece of writing that revealed the fact this game is about the whole life journey of the artist.

This week we are mainly focus on the especially the Fountain area design.

The layout of the Fountain area would be benches surrounded the fountain at the middle, the three-tiered fountain is like a landmark once the player enter the carnival will notice that. The design of the main entrance of the carnival are a combination of both old-fashion and dreamlike.
