Dev Log #5 (Oct10-Oct16)
Over the past week, the level design and story for the game have been finalized. We've decided to introduce a jester character who will serve as a guide throughout the player's journey. While the game still consists of three sections, the story will now flow seamlessly across the entire game.
With the story and game flow now clearly established, the art team has created a comprehensive list of assets that need to be made and divided into manageable parts. This week, the team will focus on completing several key assets for the scene, including the entrance (though it won't be textured by Friday), the fountain, the benches, and the booth, all of which will be fully textured. The art team has also finalized the UI design and the cs team will start implementing it this week.
Throughout last week, the CS team gathered valuable feedback from several playtests that happened within and outside the team. One of the main changes includes the addition of a clear guide on how each action is triggered. A new dialogue system has also been implemented, where dialogue is triggered when the player interacts with NPCs. Important hints that guide the player to key locations are now highlighted in red.
Looking ahead, there are several improvements planned for future builds. These include making the UI clearer, providing various feedback on the correctness of sticker placement, adding silhouettes on the sketchbook page, adjusting the timing of colour changes to make them more noticeable, and offering clearer guidance on what the player needs to do at each stage.
